With around 1.43 billion inhabitants, India is the most populous country in the world. Due to its significant cultural, economic and geopolitical importance, India plays a crucial role in global development issues. It does not only consider itself the “voice of the Global South” and an emerging economic power, but it is also increasingly positioning itself as a key player in a multipolar world - with a clear goal of achieving an enhanced representation in global institutions and negotiations.
In this edition of our online discussion series “Lunchtime Politics”, Prof. Dr. Amrita Narlikar, political scientist and former President of the GIGA Institute Hamburg (2014-2024) and Dr. Christoph Mohr, FES Country Director in New Delhi, will talk about the growing importance of India in the Indo-Pacific and in international relations and about the current European-Indian cooperation. What are the driving interests and motives behind India’s foreign policy, and what are the opportunities to develop its relations with Germany and Europe?
